As one of the most recorded classical artists performing today, Sir James Galway has made himself a legend, a modern musical master whose virtuosity on the flute is equaled only by his limitless ambitions and vision. Through his extensive touring, over 30 million albums sold and frequent international television appearances, Sir James has endeared himself to millions worldwide. As an instructor and humanitarian, Sir James is a tireless promoter of the arts. Sir James conducts this flute masterclass at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, as part of the Singapore Sun Festival 2009.

    Jin Ta, Principal Flautist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and faculty member of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory performs for the first time at the Conservatory Concert Hall. Jin Ta is a winner of numerous international music competitions, including the Boston Pappoutsakies Memorial Foundation Competition, the Memphis Young Artist Competition, and the 2000 Haifa International Flute Competition in Israel. He will perform a programme ranging from Telemann’s Flute Sonata to French composer Jolivet’s technically demanding Flute Concerto. Also on the programme is the popular Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio by cross-over composer Claude Bolling.

    An accomplished flautist, Lady Jeanne Galway continues to grace the international platforms with her virtuosity. One of the leading female flute soloists of the decade, Lady Galway brings to the audience her unique style and elegance. Actively pursuing her love of teaching, Lady Galway dedicates much of her time to working with the younger generation through her articles, masteclasses and recordings. She is co-founder of the Galway Junior Network, an interactive website aimed towards the younger, less advanced flautist, offering tips and advice on flute playing, performing and career management. Lady Galway conducts a flute workshop for young students. All flute students from the general public are welcome to attend.

    Lady Galway visits the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music as part of the Singapore Sun Festival 2009.
